Media Monday – June 8

Gotta do another quickie today. Monday is trash day, so that always takes a little longer, and it seems like we tend to be more ambitious with dinner earlier in the week, too. By Thursday, it’s like, I don’t know, we could do hamburgers? So three plates and a spatula. But today was tacos, so there were choppers and bowls and about six spatulas.

Anyway, onward!

What I Read

This is insane, I now have eight books in my “currently reading” folder! Buckle up for the story.

I decided I wanted to read a fiction book, so I checked out Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz to use for the book to screen category. Apparently, it’s also a show. Then, the next day, before I even had a chance to start it, a library hold I had for Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke came up. It’s a popular book this year, so I figured I should snag it while I could. Both loans are for 21 days, so I’m hoping I can read both before they’re due, but I’m reading Yesteryear first because it would take the longest to get again.

I’ve completely put Nut Country on the back burner, and I’m thinking I may not even finish it (not now, anyway) and pick something else for my Texas book. There should be plenty to choose from, but I also don’t want to read a book from a series (ie, the Sookie Stackhouse series), a giant book (ie, Texas by James Michener), or something too fluffy (ie, romance or cozy). I’m also not a huge fan of westerns, but I’m considering maybe looking for something by Texas author Elmer Kelton. If you have any suggestions here, please let me know!

I had started reading The Imitation of Christ: The Beatitudes Edition by Thomas a Kempis, but this version had some modern stuff in it, so I felt like I wasn’t getting the real thing, and I switched to a different version that I got from the Christian Classics Ethereal Library. (This is a great site for Christian classics.)

I’m also still reading Bizarre London by David Long, and I have The Four-Fold Way by Angeles Arrien on hold. Counting the Life Application Study Bible that I’m reading, that’s eight. Phew. I need to move some of these to other collections.

What I Watched

I watched several episodes of Gilmore Girls this week. It’s my current filler show. I’m on the second to last season, so I think I’m going to finish it in the near future. I also watched the final two episodes of The Testaments on Hulu. Then, I saw my daughter watching We Were Liars and remembered that I was interested in watching that, too. So I guess those have been my dramas for this week.

What I Listened To

Workshop week was great. It’s set up as a full-day Zoom call, so I could just log in and listen throughout the day as I could. This is one conference where I do try to purchase the vault (permanent access), because there are so many great sessions, many of which I want to go back to. I had originally thought that I would listen to An Echo in the Bone on Audible in between sessions, but there was also Q&A and discussion time in between, plus, sometimes you just need a break from the headphones. So, what I’m trying to say is that I didn’t make much progress on it. I did, however, listen to my usual podcasts in the car.

Phew! I tried to make this short, but it feels like so much is going on! So what about you? Are you having a summer slowdown, or does yours feel busier than the school year? How are you making time to read, watch, and listen? Let’s chat in the comments!
