The calendar has flipped to November, so it must be time to get rolling on the holidays! It’s not like it’s a surprise, but it also feels weird when people start saying craziness like, “Only 52 days until Christmas!” Anyway, there’s always time for reading, and even some TV watching, so let’s look back at last week!
What I Read
Well, I finished Packing for Mars by Mary Roach! This book was both informative and fun. There are a lot of things that go into space travel that we civilians don’t really think about, and the author describes them in sometimes graphic detail! I definitely recommend it if you’re remotely interested in space or NASA or anything like that.
I then started reading We Chase Shadows by Richard Osman. This is a sequel to We Solve Murders, or you might know the author better by his Thursday Murder Club series. This series has a cast of different, but still quirky, characters, and is just as fun as our retirement home friends.
I also finished reading Poustinia by Catherine Dougherty! This was also very good, just much more serious. I read this as part of the little “curriculm” that Richard Foster set in Celebration of Discipline, and I’m seeing a theme developing of slowing down and listening. Speaking of slowing down, the next book on the list is Renovation of the Heart by Dallas Willard, and the 20th anniversary edition that I’m reading has an introduction by John Mark Comer, who wrote The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry, which I read a year or two ago.
I’m also still reading the princess saves herself in this one by Amanda Lovelace. Yes, I did read another section this week, so I’m about halfway through. That reminds me, I should probably read some more tonight, too.
What I Watched
Another finish here! I finished watching Below on Netflix. This one only had six episodes of about 30-40 minutes each, so it wasn’t a huge time commitment. It kind of reminded me of Jaws, but without actually showing much of the monster. I liked that it was more psychologically scary than filled with jump scares. Definitely worth a watch if you’re into that.
Over the weekend, I picked back up watching Outlander since I realized that I had finished the latest book and so wouldn’t spoil anything. I watched three or four episodes, but I feel like I’m not enjoying it as much as I was. Maybe it’s because I know it’s the last season, or maybe because I so recently read the book and am missing some of the subplots that the show can’t cover. I’ve also been watching some episodes of Seinfeld again on Netflix.
I’ve also enjoyed watching some miscellaneous videos from some creators I follow this past week. I signed up for a summit called “Sketch Like an Architect,” not because I’m that interested in architecture, but I did enjoy watching some of the drawing and sketching videos. I’d like to practice drawing more. I also have a series I bought about cardmaking, Leonie Dawson is doing a group session of her “Get Organized” class, and Lisa Woodruff started her holiday blitz today.
What I Listened To
This section is going to be boring since I’ve just been listening to my usual stuff here. I’ve got my podcast lineup, and I’m now only about six months behind on the Organize 365 Podcast! I’ve also been listening to some more of Frank Viola’s 1 Corinthians master class.
