Media Monday – June 17 (yes, a day late)

Welp, late again! It’s not as crazy around here as May was, but it’s summer, and every week is a little bit different and out of routine.

What I Read

Well, I finished Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarro! It was pretty good. Kind of angsty through the middle, but I like the world being built. It kind of reminds me of Harry Potter – the first book ended at the end of the school/training year and closed on the main conflict, but gave a glimpse of a much greater conflict to come. I enjoyed it enough that I’m interested in continuing the series, but not so much that I’m running out to get the next book right away.

After finishing Fourth Wing, I started Give Her Credit by Grace L. Williams. I skipped a few categories and found this one to read for a book with a pink cover. It’s a true story about starting a women’s bank in Denver in the 70s, when women typically couldn’t get a loan or other banking services without a male cosigner. It’s not too long, so I’m expecting to finish it this week.

I’m also continuing to read And It Was Good by Madeleine L’Engle. She was such a brilliant woman.

What I Watched

I started a new series this week, Arrested Development. I know, it’s actually ancient, but I haven’t watched it before. I’m about 2/3 through the first season. So funny!I’ve also watched some more Seinfeld.

What I Listened To

I’ve listened to my usual podcast lineup, trying to catch up with Crafty Ass Female when I run out of new episodes. This week I’m also listening to a few sessions of a summit called “Creativity that Pays.” While I’m not necessarily looking to start a business, I am interested in how it works, and am finding a few useful tips. Yesterday there was a session about making your own Procreate brushes, which was really cool. I figured that could be done, since you always see people offering them for sale or as freebies, but I hadn’t gotten around to learning how.

Now, as far as future listens, I am getting my ish together and giving you some ideas! I’m not an affiliate or anything for these, they are just things that I’m signed up for that you might enjoy as well!

First, Jamela Payne’s Cricut SVG Design Summit is starting tomorrow! I think this is primarily focused on creating SVGs for cutting machines in various programs.

Next, the Bearded Housewife is hosting a Summer Craft Party. He will post a new summer craft project each day. I expect these to primarily be for Cricut.

Last, Happy Ever Crafter is bringing back her free, live modern calligraphy intro course! I had previously posted about what was supposed to be her last round, but she is bringing it back! The free course focuses on learning the strokes that can be used to make letters, but that will take you a long way towards learning hand lettering.

How about you? What are you consuming this week? Are you signing up for any of these events? Let me know in the comments!
