Media Monday – April 6

Well, I wrote down one thing that was out of the norm yesterday, so, look at me getting ahead of things! It’s Media Monday around her, so let’s get started!

What I Read

I finished reading The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I wanted to use this one as a sad book in my library challenge. It was sad, but not the whole thing, so that was nice. I actually really enjoy her writing. Even when the book description doesn’t sound like something I’d be that into (looking at you, Carrie Soto is Back), her writing just seems to draw me in.

After finishing that, I’ve gone back to reading Great Lion of God by another Taylor, Taylor Caldwell. Since this is an older book (and maybe also because there’s a picture of an old man on the cover, even though that’s clearly supposed to be Paul), I kind of assumed that this author was a man, but she is actually a woman. Anyway, this book is really long, and it seems like it’s going to be kind of a slow burn, but I’m getting into it, even though it may take me another week or two to finish.

In spiritual reads, I finished The Life of Antony by Athanasius right on schedule. For April, I started The Journal of John Woolman. My copy also has some of his letters, and I think an essay of his as well. I’m actually a little behind in this one, percentage-wise, but hope to catch up.

I also have continued reading The Purple Passport to London. I think I may finish that one this week.

What I Watched

Getting a little interesting here! I’m a few episodes into season seven of Outlander, but I decided to pause that one for a while. I have a yearlong subscription to Starz to watch it, and I’d like to catch up on the audiobooks before continuing because it was just getting confusing.

I’ve also watched several episodes of American Housewife this week, and a few episodes of Seinfeld over the weekend.

The big news here is that I also watched a (streaming) movie, The Housemaid. You may remember that I read the book not too long ago, so I decided I might as well go for it. The movie was pretty good, but not as good as the book.

What I Listened To

I’ve been listening to my usual podcasts while driving, with the Organize 365 Podcast filling in when I have extra time. I also finished listening to the Audible version of The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon. After that, I saw that with my active Audible subscription I have access to Evidence of the Affair, a short story by Taylor Jenkins Reid, so I decided to slip that one in. It’s only about an hour and twenty minutes. After that, I continued the Outlander books with A Breath of Snow and Ashes.

So that’s been my week in media. I’m actually pretty pleased with the balance between planned and serendipitous consumption. It’s really easy for me to get stuck in a rut, so sometimes it’s nice to try something different on impulse. How about you? Are you reading, watching, or listening to anything new? Anything unexpected? Let’s chat in the comments!
