Media Monday – August 4

Welcome back to another quick Media Monday at the last minute! I’m hoping that life will slow down after this month, but maybe I’m too optimistic. Well, either way, I’m here now, so let’s get started!

What I’m Reading

I kind of left you on a cliff-hanger with my spiritual book last week! I decided to start Present Perfect by Gregory A. Boyd. It’s kind of a book of essays distilling the wisdom of Brother Lawrence and a couple of other authors who have written about “the practice of the presence of God.” This must be what I needed, because I’ve been seeing this theme in multiple places this week. The book is really good so far. You may remember that Greg Boyd’s Apologies and Explanations podcast is one that I listen to regularly.

In other reading news, I did finish Bel Canto by Ann Pratchett. The ending was both lovely and devastating! This is the first book of hers that I’ve read, but I’d be interested in reading more.

After that, my next library challenge category was for a book where a main character dies. Well, actually, the next one was for a book found on display at the library, but it was night, so I wasn’t able to check out their displays just then and skipped to this one. Anyway, I perused their recommendations for this category and decided to try One Day by David Nicholls. It’s about a couple who hooks up on their college graduation night, and each chapter is the story of that date the following year. I think I’m on chapter four. It’s an interesting premise, but I’m a little disappointed that I can be pretty sure one of them is going to die. Oh, well. I probably never would have picked this book up without the challenge, which is a reason that I enjoy doing it so much.

What I’m Watching

In streaming, I did finish watching season one of Wednesday this weekend, but that’s it. Any other watching time I had was occupied with watching the Card Maker Success Summit, which is unfortunately over, and the Summer Creative Retreat, which you can still attend! I’m loving that all these videos are available to watch until the end of the week, so if you sign up now, you don’t have to miss anything.

If you’re disappointed about missing the card maker thing, there is another one coming up for beginners next week! I have my ticket to this one too, and will probably watch some sessions there, since I consider myself a beginner card maker.

What I’m Listening To

Not much to report here, just the usual. I still have a couple hours left of Oracle 3, so I need to squeeze that in this week around the art videos.

So that’s what I’ve been doing when I am able to find time for media! How about you? What are you reading, watching, or listening to? Let’s talk about it in the comments!
