What I finished
I finished Born a Crime by Trevor Noah this week. It was really interesting to learn about how he grew up in South Africa just as apartheid was falling. I also found it interesting how many categories there were for people of different ancestries and skin colors, and as a kid with a Black mom and a White dad, a young Trevor didn’t quite fit into any of them. It wasn’t only, or even mostly, about South African politics, though. He was very personable, telling funny, touching, and some very personal stories. I recommend it if you haven’t read it. The book had a ghostwriter, so I’m using it for that category in my library challenge.
What I’m still reading
I’m about a quarter of the way through Revelation for the Rest of Us by Scot McKnight and Cody Matchett. Good so far.
Also still slowly listening to The 4-Hour Work Week by Tim Ferris on Audible.
What I started
First, I decided to check out a library hold that came up, Tired as F*ck by Caroline Dooner. I read her previous book, The F*ck It Diet, last year. I don’t remember everything about that one, but I feel like this one is more personal, delving into the reasons for her disordered eating and also other anxieties and intrusive thoughts that she’s had since adolescence. I don’t relate to everything she’s gone through, but I am finding a lot to relate to. I’m about halfway through.
I also started Chernobyl by Frederik Pohl. It’s a novelized account of the infamous nuclear accident. I’m not too far into this one, but so far I am enjoying the perspectives of those who worked at the plant. This one should cover the reading challenge category of a book with the name of a city in the title.
Reading plans
I want to finish the books in progress, of course. The next challenge category is a book about a heist, and the hard part there will be picking one! YA reads can count for this, so I’m considering Heist Society by Ally Carter because I loved her Gallagher Girls series. Since this should be an easy read regardless of what I pick, I will likely check out another non-fiction library hold, whatever comes up once I’ve finished Tired.
I’ve also got Sunrise on the Reaping on hold at a couple of local libraries, and if that one comes up, I’ll get to it as soon as possible. Currently both are estimating three weeks, but if people are nice and return it early I could get it sooner.
How about you? What have you been reading and enjoying? What would you like to read? Let’s chat in the comments!
