It’s Reading Thursday again, woot woot! Reading has always been my favorite hobby, and I may love talking about books as much as reading them!
There are some genres that have just never really been my thing. There are also a few that I kind of feel like I’ve overdosed on and gotten sick of. But there are so many wonderful books out there, that it feels impossible to have enough time to read them all!

What I Finished
This has been a great reading week! As planned, I finished Revelation for the Rest of Us by Scot McKnight and Cody Matchett. I really enjoyed this one! It was a refreshing and challenging perspective on the book of Revelation, in the best way. It focused on reading the book with a focus on dissident discipleship that resists the pull of empire Babylon. Highly recommended if you want a practical and timely take on this seemingly esoteric book.
I also finished Heist Society by Ally Carter. This is a YA book, so it’s pretty ridiculous, but also pretty fun! I enjoy her world building, and the twists and turns that the story took.
Then, I checked out, read, and finished You Can’t Screw This Up by Adam Bornstein from the library. Yeah, it’s a diet book, but not really a traditional one. I liked his approach of focusing on getting plenty of protein and fiber and then just not going overboard with fats and carbs. I’m looking for something between the F*ck It Diet and the continuous tracking that I did to lose weight, and hoping this might hit that sweet spot.
I also checked out and completely read The Glass Woman by Alice McIlroy. This one was one of the library challenge recommendations for a book about AI. It’s science fiction about a woman who wakes up with no memories and an AI assistant implanted in her head, ostensibly to cure her of the severe depression she had been suffering prior to the procedure. Of course, that’s not the whole story! Something about this one left me a little unsatisfied, though. Maybe it was that it felt a little rushed in making multiple layers of revelation, or maybe it was just that it hit a little too close to home and left me feeling like this one day might not be as fictional as I would like!
Finally, I read Martyrdom of St. Perpetua and Felicity by Tertullian. That was my spiritual book this last week or so. It’s short, only six chapters. It’s a fascinating story of early Christian martyrs.
What I Started
I decided to check out another library book, Odd Girl Out by Laura James. I’ve only barely started this one.
On Audible, I started Strangers on a Train by Patricia Highsmith. I’d read her The Talented Mr. Ripley several years ago, after watching the movie with Matt Damon, but I’m enjoying this one more. I’m pretty far into this one, and am hopeful that I may finish it in the next week.
How about you? What have you been reading this week? Let’s discuss in the comments!
