What I finished
I finished The Dogs of Rome by Conor Fitzgerald. I guess you’d call it a police procedural. It wasn’t in first person, but was from the point of view of Alec Blume, an Italian police commissioner and American expat. The title comes from a dog fighting ring that the murder victim helped expose in a documentary. It gets kind of dark, but I didn’t find it overly explicit. I gave it three stars. I enjoyed it well enough, but also wasn’t super into it, and I doubt I’ll pick up any of the subsequent books in the series or seek out more books by the author.
What I’m still reading
Kindle thinks I’m done with Praying Like Monks, Living Like Fools, but there’s some appendices that I’m still reading through. Soon, though!
I didn’t realize that the Mrs. Harris audible book that I had been reading was included with my membership, so when that ended, I lost access in the middle of Mrs. Harris Goes to New York. It’s a bummer, but special deals come up every so often, so I’m planning to finish this one first next time I get access.
What I started
My next read is Ruby by Lauraine Snelling. I’m using it for a book with a gemstone in the title for my library challenge. My method isn’t very sophisticated; I picked ruby because it is my birthstone, searched my Kindle library for that word, and picked the one that sounded the most interesting. This one is historical fiction about a girl named Ruby who travels out west to get her inheritance from her dying father. I think it’s Christian fiction, and suspect there may be some sweet romance involved, too.
Since I needed a new audio book, I started The 4-Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferriss. I’m not sure audio is the best format to read this, but oh well.
Reading plans
My next challenge category is a book that is ghostwritten. I assume all celebrity books are ghostwritten, so I’ll probably just pick one about someone I’m interested in. I’m thinking maybe Matthew Perry’s book.
For my next spiritual book, I’m thinking I’ll start Revelation for the Rest of Us by Scot McKnight. I’ve had it for a little while, and it will go along with a new sermon series at church.
So that’s my reading week! What are you reading? Any recommendations?
