Reading…FRiday?

So, yeah, I didn’t even get a post up on Thursday, but I didn’t forget! It’s been a pretty good reading week, though!

What I Finished

I guess I both started and finished The Note by Alafair Burke. It was an alright mystery. I guessed whodunit, but it was close enough to the end that it made me feel smart rather than bored, haha. I didn’t really care for any of the characters, though, and I kind of feel like none of them really grew or learned anything. Well, except who they shouldn’t have trusted, I guess! Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the theme that everyone makes mistakes and deserves sympathy and a second chance, but, I don’t know, the friendship that was central to the story just seemed kind of toxic. In the middle it felt like they were kind of realizing it, but then once everything was solved they just went back to the same old dynamic, having dumped anyone who had anything negative to say.

Once that was done, I focused on and finished Chernobyl by Frederik Pohl. It was good, but I have mixed feelings about this kind of fictionalization of real events, especially when there is plenty of eyewitness documentation. I enjoyed the non-fictional Midnight in Chernobyl by Adam Higginbotham more, even though I gave both three stars on Goodreads.

What I Started

Next up is Heist Society by Ally Carter. I loved her Gallagher Girls series, so this seemed like a fun one for the library challenge category of a book about a heist!

What I’m Still Reading

I’m still plugging away at Revelation for the Rest of Us by Scot McKnight and Cody Matchett.

Oh, and I almost forgot, I got another offer for three months of Audible at $0.99 per month, so I’m back to Mrs. Harris Goes to New York!

What I Plan to Read

I’m not sure what’s next yet. I may do another non-fiction book, probably from the library when my next hold comes up. My next library challenge category is a book about artificial intelligence, but I’m not sure what I’m going to do for that one. Recommendations are welcome! They don’t have to be read in order, just sometime during the year, but going down the list helps me stay focused. Maybe I’ll just go wild, though, and pick a different category!

How about you? What are you reading this week?
