Media Monday (Well, Tuesday) – November 4

Yeah, so busy weekend, and I thought I would be able to write this post yesterday, but I put it off too long and couldn’t. So today it’s Media Monday on a Tuesday.

What I Read

So I finished Acceptance by Jeff VanderMeer, the third book in the Southern Reach series. I think it was originally meant to just be a trilogy, and was an appropriate ending for one, but a fourth book has since been published. I do intend to read that one, just not right away. These books are kind of weird, so if you want clear narrative and everything wrapped up, this series is not for you. If you like ambiguity and ideas, you may like these books.

After that I read a few more chapters of The Strength of His Hand by Lynn Austin. But I’m sure you can guess what happened then, a library hold came up. This time it was The Book Censor’s Library by Bothanya Al-Essa. I discovered this one while browsing an independent bookstore on my vacation. I almost purchased it, but in the end found that one of my libraries had it in ebook form, so decided against it. (I did purchase a tote bag to support the bookstore!) I was surprised that this one hadn’t come onto my radar before; it was longlisted for the National Book Award last year and sounds like kind of a mix between 1984 and Farenheit 451, so right up my alley! I’m enjoying this one so far.

I’m also still reading Celebration of Discipline by Richard Foster for my spiritual read. This is a classic; I really should come back to it more often.

What I Watched

I finished another full rewatch of Seinfeld this week! I will no doubt come back to this at some point, but am trying to watch other things for now.

In other things, I watched the finale of Only Murders in the Building and the latest episode of the companion podcast. It was satisfying as always, and I’m excited for the next season, whenever that may be!

I watched the first episode of Manifest because I heard it mentioned somewhere, and my daughter has raved about it, so it was already on my list. I told her that if she likes this she should try Lost, but I don’t think she’s taken me up on that yet! Anyway, the description and the vibe reminds me of both Lost and 4400, so I’m excited to try it.

I probably would have watched more, but I decided I better watch season 4 of Stranger Things now that it’s November and the next season will be out soon! I also squeezed in watching Wicked on Amazon Prime this weekend. I had seen it in the theaters when it came out, but wanted to rewatch before the second movie is out. Speaking of which, I should look into getting tickets for that.

What I Listened To

Nothing new to report here. I’m still listening to my usual podcast lineup. I listened to a few episodes of both Crafty Ass Female and Organize 365 once I got through my weeklies. I’m up to 2024 episodes for both of those, so hoping they will be part of my regular schedule soon! I’ve also been listening to Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon on Audible.

How about you? What have you been reading, watching and listening to? Let’s chat in the comments!
