Media Monday – October 27

Sigh. So I’ve missed two weeks. The first one I just missed, and the last one I was on vacation, which I didn’t really want to announce in advance on the internet. I did take a little different approach to memory keeping there that I’m hoping to post about soon. Then I had the best of intentions to get a post ready yesterday to go up this morning, but stuff happened. (Well, I guess actually stuff didn’t happen.) But I’m getting back on track now with three weeks of media to report on. It’s probably a little light because of said vacation, but let’s jump in and see what we’ve got.

What I Read

I finished The Magician of Tiger Castle by Louis Sachar. Yes, the Holes guy. This one was marketed as his first adult book, but there’s really nothing inappropriate or anything in it, it’s just about adults. I’m sure some of his younger fans would enjoy this one as well. Frankly, it was a delight.

Next I checked out Authority by Jeff VanderMeer, the second book in the Southern Reach series. I feel like this one read a little bit easier than the first one because it took place outside of Area X, at the Southern Reach facility that was sending the expeditions into Area X. It was still pretty weird, though. I had started this one, but not gotten very far into it, when my hold on Acceptance, the third book, came up and I checked that one out as well, thinking I could read it on vacation. I had some immediate second thoughts, but when I finished book two, I did really want to know what happened next, so I plowed in. I’m a little more than halfway through this one, and it’s turning out to be my favorite so far. It’s a little different as it is told from multiple perspectives and from multiple timeframes, so it feels like some answers, or at least viable theories, are slowly being revealed.

For my spiritual read, I started (re)reading Celebration of Discipline by Richard Foster. I’ve read this one before, but it’s been many years, and it’s nice to revisit this one.

What I Watched

I had gotten a little behind on Only Murders in the Building due to the traveling, but I got caught up this weekend. I also discovered that this season there is a companion podcast (on video and also on Hulu), so I’ve been watching as well. It’s hosted by Michael Cyril Creighton, who plays Howard in the series, and has featured several minor cast members and members of the crew. It’s been fun and interesting to see a little behind the scenes of how the show gets made.

I’ve also watched some more episodes of Seinfeld and Gilmore Girls, and DH and I have watched another episode or two of The Chosen.

What I Listened To

I’m still listening to my usual lineup here. I haven’t worked through the backlog of Organize 365 podcasts, although I’ve made quite a dent, but I did go back to listening to Crafty Ass Female this past weekend. I guess I just felt like I needed a break from organizing. I do still enjoy listening to both of them.

In audiobooks, I finished listening to Outlander by Diana Gabaldon, and I started the second book, Dragonfly in Amber.

I think that’s it for me this week. (Or for the last three weeks!) How about you? What are you reading, watching, listening to, or otherwise consuming? Let’s chat in the comments!
