Media Monday – December 29 (a little late)

So you probably won’t believe this, but I was totally on top of this. I had this drafted Sunday evening, and figured I’d review and post it sometime Monday. Did I? Obviously not, I completely forgot! So, at least, here’s what I intended to post on Monday.

What I Read

I finished reading I, Medusa by Ayana Gray. This was really good. I think it’s a mark of a good book if it can make you care about the story when you already know the outcome.

Up next, another library book, but this time non-ficition, Is Your Daughter Ready? by Kari Kampakis. It’s about how to raise teenage girls from a Christian perspective. Nothing earth-shattering yet, but some good reminders. Then, I was bored with the idea of only reading this one straight through, so I decided to read a book from my Kindle backlog, Ha’penny by Jo Walton. I read Farthing a few months ago. (At least I think it was only months!) It’s part of a trilogy (although I feel like they can really stand alone) about an alternate history of England after they made a treaty with Nazi Germany, cutting WWII short.

In spiritual reads, I’m still working on God is in the Manger by Dietrich Bonhoeffer and finishing up my reading plan on the CSB Ancient Faith Study Bible. That reminds me, I promised some more information about that this week. A few years ago I was looking to read through the whole Bible, but had already done cover to cover and chronological, so was looking for something different. Via Google search I stumbled on this plan from Faith Presbyterian Church in Tacoma, Washington. (Random, I know!) They have a member who creates a different thematic reading plan each year. So, for example, right now, I’m reading in Ecclesiastes that everything is meaningless because everyone dies, while also reading in 1 Thessalonians about the hope of resurrection, which is kind of cool. The passages don’t always line up in an obvious way, but it’s always kind of a neat perspective to see the different parings that are chosen.

What I Watched

First, more Lost! I now have just a few more episodes to go in season 4. Then, of course, Stranger Things released volume 2 on Christmas day, so I was able to watch all of that. I’m anxiously awaiting the final installment! I also subscribed to Starz with their $12 for a year deal, so I expect to report I’m watching Outlander soon, but haven’t started it yet.

What I Listened To

I did manage to listen to all my usual podcasts this week, between the little driving I did and the larger amount of shopping. (I sometimes wear my bone conduction headphones to continue listening while shopping, especially at the grocery store.) After the regulars, I listened to a couple of episodes of the Crafty Ass Female podcast. I’m pretty sure there was no audiobook listening this week, although I did bond with my brother-in-law about the Outlander series. He is also listening to it and on Voyager.

So that was my media week. What about you? Are you able to get more in during the holidays, or less? How do you feel about that? Let’s chat in the comments!
