Today I have a project to share!
Last week I took a free course from Abbi Kirsten on creating SVGs with Inkscape. Inkscape is freeware for Windows and Mac that a lot of people compare to Adobe Illustrator. I’d heard of it before, and even downloaded it and played with it a tiny bit, but it’s a little intimidating to start actually creating something. That’s why I like to jump on opportunities like this when I see them.
It was a three-day course. Day one was mostly playing around and getting familiar with the tool, but days two and three actually resulted in two small projects that I create following Abbi’s direction. They aren’t perfect, and I will spend some more time on them if I actually use them for anything, but overall I was impressed and proud of how well I was able to follow along and create something.
The day two project was a boho rainbow SVG, like you might cut out of vinyl for a T-shirt or print for a sticker. I know the spacing and alignment needs some work, and I would also like to fix the wide “feet” of the rainbow arcs.

Day three was a full greeting card. I’d like to make my leaves a little fuller and fill in some more space between the leaves and the flowers, but, again, I’m overall pretty happy that I was able to create this in a pretty short amount of time. (The horizontal bar on the middle right is where you would write the sentiment. Abbi suggested doing this in Design Space or whatever software you used to make the final project, as writing.)

So that’s mostly what I was up to this weekend! Unfortunately the free course has been taken down now, but these things tend to come around again.
