Watching Wednesday 2025-03-04

Welcome to the second edition of Watching Wednesday! I’m going to talk about what I’m watching this week, and would love you to join in the comments!

What I’m watching now

I found a new show! I was checking out Peacock for other stuff I might want to watch there, and decided to try Emerald City. This one is a little older, from 2016-2017, but I’d not heard of it before. It’s based on the Wizard of Oz, but is a much grittier, adult retelling. As in, Dorothy is an adult; there is some romance and definitely some scary scenes and adult topics, but it’s nothing explicit that I’ve seen. I’ve watched four episodes, and so far am loving it! It looks like this one was also canceled after a single season, so only six more to go.

As planned, my husband and I watched two episodes of House of David. We really liked it and plan to keep watching. It has an interesting, extra-biblical back story for David, and is building a good narrative for the rivalry between David and Saul. It seems to be narrated by Michal (Saul’s daughter, and later David’s wife), which seems like a good choice since she was around the whole time, but relegated to the background for most of it.

I’ve also watched several more episodes of Seinfeld. I’ve noticed that some of the jokes can be a little funnier when watching straight through because once in a while they’ll kind of allude to something that happened not too long ago.

Lastly, I had an unexpected day off because the power was out at work, so I watched the last episode of Outer Banks! I had been planning to watch over the weekend, but got busy and didn’t really have the uninterrupted time I wanted to watch the nearly hour and a half episode.

What I’m planning to watch

Probably mostly Seinfeld on weekdays. I’m looking forward to some more Emerald City on the weekend.

Another show that I sometimes enjoy watching when I need something lighter is Gilmore Girls. I started this one probably a few months ago, but I’m still in the first season. It seems so right up my alley with Rory Gilmore being such a big reader, but, honestly, I get kind of annoyed with the cutesy banter and comebacks if I watch too much. Still, an occasional visit to Stars Hollow makes for a nice break from the real world.

There’s still one more episode of House of David already out, and another one drops on Thursday, so I’m sure we’ll try to watch at least one more in the coming week.

How about you? Any great TV finds? Let me know in the comments!
